And when the Philistine looked about and saw David, he disdained him; for he was only a youth… 1 Samuel 17:42

It would not have made any difference to the outcome if David had been a toddler. David set out against the champion of the Philistines, who was well-armed, experienced in battle and extremely strong. Behind Goliath stood the armies of the Philistines, ready to attack. They looked on a mere youth, unarmed and inexperienced in battle. If only they could have seen the Invisible One, they would have trembled and fled. We may be tempted to look on the hosts of darkness, but we need instead simply to hold the hand of the Creator/Redeemer Jesus, and then we stand invincible, whatever our age. The outcome seemed clear to the Philistines, and the outcome will seem clear to a person of the world. The Church may seem weak and irrelevant, and sometimes may look as if it is about to be swept away by the tides of evil flowing in the rocky riverbed of history. The Church is like an army of helpless children, fighting against the sophisticated armies of earth. But the army of children will win, because they walk with Jesus. How blessed to be aware of the inevitable victory of Christ. All fear and dread disappear and are replaced with eager anticipation of how He shall make His people triumph. The details are different in every battle, but the outcome is the same. We are more than overcomers through Christ.
