Blessed is the man who listens to me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors. For whoever finds me finds life, and obtains favor from the Lord… Proverbs 8:34-35
Waiting on God is the foundation of life in the Spirit. The human soul must find its poise, its purpose. The humming bird beats its wings rapidly in order to hover and draw nectar from a flower, but there is an ease and a poise in its flight. So, too, we must find the ease of praying, of waiting on God. Pause, let the hurry and strain go out of you. Jesus Christ demonstrates the perfect human soul in fellowship with God, and He longs to form that soul in us. Christ was a listener – it was His natural inclination to listen to His Father. The person who waits on God will be refreshed and empowered to act. Christ kept the poise of quiet inner focus on the Father, and the result was a flood of activity, flowing from the inner fountain of love and healing. Like the humming bird hovering, the level of activity might sometimes appear to be a great strain on us. But with our inner calling in perfect fulfilment, our life is able to maintain an effortless flow. ‘Seek first the Kingdom of God.’ We seek God’s rule with deep inner surrender. Is the result passivity? Never – or it is a deception. Surrender to God in our heart is the poise of perfect flight. Watch, wait, listen and see your wings unfold to perfect flight.
