…for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created. Revelation 4:11, KJV

At the beginning of the 19th century, surgeons were beginning to understand the complexity of the human body by performing autopsies and examining how the body functions.  An anecdote recounts how one atheist boldly claimed that he could demonstrate the function of every part of the human body in purely physical terms.  A human being was, he claimed, a physical and mechanical entity – a collection of chemicals and structural parts, and nothing more.  A Christian surgeon, on hearing these words, pointed the atheist to a piano and issued the challenge: ‘Take it to pieces and tell me when you find the music!’  The point is that the piano was made for the purpose of producing music, but music has no physical substance, even though it is produced by physical means.  It begins in the human soul.  The piano is meaningless unless there is music.  So, too, the physical world, and we ourselves, have no meaning without the Creator’s plan and purpose – that we should live a beautiful life before God, full of the music of love and kindness.  You were created, like a musical instrument, to produce beauty and bring pleasure to God.
