God has raised this Jesus to life, and we are all witnesses of the fact. Exalted to the right hand of God, he has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit and has poured out what you now see and hear. Acts 2:32-33, NIV
When Jesus was raised from the dead, He was given the place of highest honour in the universe. He was not merely given an honorary position; He was given absolute power over all things. This is the message of the Bible – that the Jesus of the Gospels is now ruling over all things. The Bible presents this as the most comforting truth of all to the human heart. There is also a direct link between exalting Jesus and enjoying the peace of His rule. Our worship does not increase His stature or His authority, but it does establish the connection between us and God, and allows His rule to flow over our lives. Worship is the central place in the discovery of God’s will. If worship ceases in our hearts, all life dries up, and we cease to enjoy the outpouring of the Holy Spirit in our hearts. Exalting Jesus is acknowledging what is true and agreeing with God’s view of the universe. As we exalt Jesus, life begins to flow and darkness flees. As we exalt Jesus, we are at that very moment back in the centre of God’s will.
