If they do not speak according to this word, it is because there is no light in them. Isaiah 8:20

The Bible, the Word of God, is the compass of the human race. To lose the Bible through neglect is as serious for an individual or a generation as for a ship to lose its charts and compass. When the weather is good, the ship is still in danger from unseen reefs, but when the storms come, the ship is in a perilous state, with no source of help. All believers will agree that the Bible is important, but it is vital to realise that the Bible is all-important. If a person speaks or lives from their own mind and wisdom, then they live without light. Beware the drift in your mind into worldly thinking. Immediately after we have read any book, the process of ‘leakage’ begins and we are unable to remember all the details. We forget people’s names, dates, historical facts, and it is exactly the same with our knowledge of the Bible. The Bible is our map and compass, and we need to consult it afresh each day, or there will be no light within us. God has chosen to reveal Himself through His Word. This means that it is the way best suited to refresh us each day in our knowledge of Him. Switch on the light, drink in the Word. It is God’s will for us, and it is within our reach.
