One who turns away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer is an abomination. Proverbs 28:9
God’s Word and God’s law are a foundation on which our life of prayer is built. It is no more possible to build a life of prayer without the Word of life, than it is to build anything more than a shack without an architect’s plans. God’s Word is food for us, gives us the framework to understand God’s mind, and is a doorway to His Presence, which refreshes us and gives us faith. Start each time of prayer with the Word. Let it open the conversation between you and God. If you place upon yourself the burden of hearing God every day, but don’t open the conversation with His Word, you will crush yourself in defeat and wander in vain agitation or, worse still, into deception. Let God open each day’s communion, and let prayer be a conversation. The Bible is a Spirit-breathed, supernatural book, and those who read, meditate and listen will find their hearts overflowing with confidence in prayer, and a flow of things to pray about. Prayer, intercession, praise and worship all flow from the place of heeding God’s Word.
