There is another who bears witness of Me, and I know that the witness which He witnesses of Me is true. John 5:32

At first sight, this verse could seem as if Jesus was claiming that another proof He was from God is that God had told him so!  Obviously, this is building one proof on another and so would constitute only one proof, not two.  But Jesus did not mean that.  He is not referring to something God had told Him, but to something God tells you and me.  Jesus is speaking about the realm of the witness of the Spirit, and He says that something in our hearts confirms that what we are discovering is true.  In fact, it is as if we are discovering something we have always known, only at last someone is making it plain to us.  Corrie Ten Boom called the faculty of the witness of the Spirit ‘your Knower’.  Don’t live just by rational pros and cons; rest in what you know from the Father.  Jesus said, “No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws Him. It is written in the prophets, ‘And they shall all be taught by God.’ ” – John 6:44-45.  This shows us that the witness in our hearts is not optional, but a vital faculty by which we draw near to God, and by which we learn the things of God.  Our ‘Knower’ is refreshed continually as we listen and obey.  If we dismiss the whisper in our hearts, we grow cold and Jesus seems distant.  Obey the call of the Father in your heart.
