…thus you shall eat it (the Passover): with a belt on your waist, your sandals on your feet, and your staff in your hand. Exodus 12:11

This is one of the details of God’s marvellous salvation of His people. It is really obvious, but easy to overlook. The Passover lamb must be eaten wearing clothes and shoes ready for a journey. The result of faith in Christ is that a door opens for us to begin our journey, and that is the great meaning of the Passover – it is the first vital step in a journey. It would be madness to be delivered from slavery and then continue as if nothing had happened. So, too, when we put our faith in Christ, we are set free to follow Him, to leave the ways of sin, and begin the discovery of the Person of God. Dress yourself for the journey today, with shoes that are comfortable for a long walk, and no unnecessary burdens that will tire you and make you discouraged, or even make you turn back. Take a good staff to lean on, a cross that will support you over steep inclines or rocky terrain. Never forget you are on a journey of discovery.
