Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you; … While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of light. John 12:35-36
We so readily assume that opportunities will always be at hand for us, but they may not always be. There are moments of great understanding and spiritual clarity, but these are passing moments. If we seize the opportunity, we will make ‘the light’ our home. It is like a train pulling into a station – we must board the train in the brief moments before it moves on. We may resent this fact, we may even resist it, but that will not change it. When opportunities do arise, the way we choose to react to them will determine the direction we move in. We may wish we had more time, or that we could live two parallel lives, but we cannot. “Walk while you have the light.” Board the train of God’s truth, and let the power of it carry you away. What does it mean to walk in the light? It means putting things that are doubtful or negative out of my life. It means surrender to the Holy Spirit, especially on the line of things He touches in my life. It means making radical choices about the kind of person I will become. Putting off the decision is risking missing the train. Doing nothing is a decision with the same dire consequences as rebellion. Whatever God puts His finger on, deal with it quickly, while you have the light.
