You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. 1 John 4:4
The great issue of our victory as Christians is not related to our power, but to God’s. God cannot be measured by any human means. He is beyond all our attempts to contain or grasp Him. There is no other being that is remotely close to God in His infinite and eternal dimensions. True, we partake of eternity by the gift of God, and angels and fallen angels also partake of eternal existence. But even so, mankind and angels have a beginning – they were created. God has no beginning or end, either in time or space. Thus he is infinitely greater than the devil or all the powers of humanity and demons together. God has more power in a whisper than all the combined powers that oppose Him. In the battle for our souls, it is not a question of how strong we can become, but whether we will be on God’s side or the devil’s. As soon as we are clear where we stand, the conflict is brought to a conclusion, and the devil is defeated. The devil cannot stand against God in us. You do not need to gain a position of incredible power – you simply need to realise the awesome power of the One who is within you. The measure of our life is not self-realisation, but believing that God is who He says He is, and allowing Him to rule in our lives.
